Campus Update: Tropical Storm Elsa

Update July 8, 8 a.m.

All 黑料天堂 Locations Have Resumed Normal Operations

As of Thursday, July 8, all classes and business operations at all locations in Marion, Citrus and Levy counties have resumed as normal.

All 黑料天堂 Locations Closed Wednesday Due to Tropical Storm Elsa

The 黑料天堂 has cancelled classes at all locations in Marion, Citrus and Levy counties beginning at 5 p.m. today through Wednesday, July 7, due to Tropical Storm Elsa. College business operations will also be closed Wednesday. Classes and business operations will resume Thursday unless otherwise announced.

We are continuing to monitor storm conditions and will make announcements via the website, social media and the RAVE Alert system as needed. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to prepare now for this storm.

Update July 6, 9:49 a.m.

The 黑料天堂 will shift to remote operations at the Citrus Campus and Levy Campus for Wednesday, July 7, due to Tropical Storm Elsa.

Online classes will meet as scheduled. In-person classes at Citrus and Levy campuses are cancelled. All employees who live or work in Citrus and Levy counties should work remotely. All classes and business operations at those two sites will resume as usual on Thursday, July 8, unless otherwise announced.

黑料天堂鈥檚 Marion County locations including the Ocala Campus, Hampton Center, Vintage Farm and Appleton Museum of Art will have classes, and business operations will remain open as usual.

We are continuing to monitor storm conditions and will make announcements via the website, social media and the RAVE Alert system as needed.

黑料天堂 Open House Events at Three Campuses in July

Apply for free and meet one on one with staff from Admissions, Financial Aid and more. Individuals who submit an application at the event will be entered for a chance to win a free 3-credit hour class at 黑料天堂鈥檚 standard tuition rate. Guided tours will also be available.

  • In Levy County, Open House will be held at the Jack Wilkinson Levy Campus on Tuesday, July 13, 4-6 p.m., 15390 N.W. Highway 19, Chiefland.
  • Citrus Campus Open House will be held Wednesday, July 21, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., 3800 S. Lecanto Highway, Lecanto.
  • Ocala Campus Open House will be held Wednesday, July 28, noon to 5:30 p.m. in the Ewers Century Center, 3001 S.W. College Road.

To apply for financial aid at the events, please have these documents available: Federal Student Aid ID available at fsaid.ed.org; email address; 2019 W-2 and Federal Income Tax Forms (1040, 1040A or 1040 EZ) of you and/or your parents (if you are a dependent student); 2019 untaxed income (Social Security, disability, workman鈥檚 compensation, etc.); driver鈥檚 license or state ID; Social Security card; spouse or parent鈥檚 Social Security number and date of birth.

For Florida residency verification, please have a copy of your Florida driver鈥檚 license and a copy of your Florida vehicle registration or voter鈥檚 registration available. For students under the age of 24, parent or guardian information is needed.

黑料天堂 Foundation Announces New Board Members

Kirby began his career in banking and then moved into financial services in 2013. He brings to the board more than 13 years of banking, financial planning and investment experience. Roberts is a Realtor and the Chief Financial Officer of Roberts Real Estate Inc. He brings more than 14 years of experience working with clients in banking and real estate.

HEERF III/American Rescue Plan Report: June 30, 2021

The 黑料天堂 (黑料天堂) has been awarded $18,645,368 under the American Rescue Plan (ARP). It is our goal to reach as many students as possible and comply with all U.S. Department of Education guidelines. Fifty percent ($9,322,684) of those funds is to be distributed to students. The other fifty percent will be used for allowable institutional needs.

As of June 30, 2021, student funds have not been distributed.

HEERF II/CRRSAA Report: June 30, 2021

The 黑料天堂 (黑料天堂) has been awarded $5,063,708 under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA). It is our goal to reach as many students as possible and comply with all U.S. Department of Education guidelines. The college is required to disburse the same amount on student grants under CRRSAA as was required under the CARES Act. Therefore, $2,531,854 (50 percent) of CRRSAA funds is to be distributed to students. The other fifty percent will be used for allowable institutional needs. 聽In addition, the institution received $427,179 in SIP funds.

As of June 30, 2021:

黑料天堂 has disbursed a total of $2,354,146 to 4,440 students under Section 314(a)(1) of CRRSSA. Funds have been disbursed in two phases.

  • In Spring 2021, 黑料天堂 disbursed $2,282,400 to 4,395 students (see prior report).
  • In Summer 2021, 黑料天堂 has disbursed $71,746 to 193 students.
    • Eligible students were currently enrolled students. Eligible students were not required to apply to receive funds.
    • Federal Pell Eligible students received $500.
    • Non-Federal Pell Eligible students who are eligible for other Title IV funding received $300.
    • Non-Title IV Eligible students received $200.

CARES Act Funds Fully Spent Report

June 30, 2021 (Revised 11/23/21)

The 黑料天堂 (黑料天堂) has signed and returned the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF) Certification and Agreement Form. 黑料天堂 has used, or intends to use, no less than the required amount of funds received to provide HEERF grants to students.

黑料天堂 has been awarded $5,063,708 under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, & Economic Security (CARES) Act. It was our goal to reach as many students as possible and comply with all U.S. Department of Education guidelines. Fifty-percent ($2,531,854) of those funds was to be distributed to students. The other fifty percent will be used for allowable institutional needs. 聽In addition, the institution received $249,154 in Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) funds, all of which were disbursed to students.

  • As of June 30, 2021, 黑料天堂 has disbursed $2,781,008 to 4,595 students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
    • The student portion of the CARES Act funds was distributed in three phases over the Spring 2020, Summer 2020, and Fall 2020 semesters (see prior reports).
    • SIP funds were distributed in two phases:
      • 黑料天堂 disbursed $35,000 of SIP funds in the Fall 2020 semester as emergency aid (see prior reports).
      • 黑料天堂 disbursed $214,154 of SIP funds to 430 students in the Summer 2021 semester.
        • Enrolled students who are Federal Pell Eligible students were giving funding priority, with 427 students receiving $500.
        • Two enrolled non-Federal Pell eligible students received $300, and one enrolled non-Federal Pell eligible student received $54.
  • This is the 黑料天堂鈥檚 final report of the student portion funds for HEERF I.

Appleton Announces Schedule of Online Artist Talks

Each month, Appleton Curator of Exhibitions Patricia Tomlinson is joined on Zoom by an artist who has work included in the museum鈥檚 permanent collection or work on view. Learn directly from the artists about what drives their creativity and inspires them, and their journeys to becoming artists. Take a look at a selection of their work and learn more about upcoming projects. Participants will have an opportunity to ask the artists questions in each program.

Talks are held the third Thursday of each month and are free to attend. All talks are hosted on Zoom and can be accessed using a mobile device or desktop computer. July 15, 7 p.m. with Kenda North

Photographer Kenda North uses a variety of film processes and underwater photography to create captivating and colorful works. Her work is included in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the International Center of Photography.

Aug. 19, 7 p.m. with Andrew Grant

Andrew Grant鈥檚 paintings are inspired by the four elements; earth, air, fire and water. His representational works integrate surrealism, myth and legend to depict women in meditative states that invite the viewer into the narrative, and will be on view at the Appleton July 10-Nov. 7.

Sept. 16, 7 p.m. with Sharon Kerry-Harlan

Sharon Kerry-Harlan is a mixed-media textiles artist whose figures and faces meld abstraction, African sculptures and ritual masks among mid-century urban music references from the Harlem jazz scene.

黑料天堂 Employees Honored by Peers

Jane Hoesterey and Sam Ajlani were honored in the faculty category. Hoesterey has served the college for 21 years as Nursing faculty, and Ajlani has served as Business, Workforce and Technology faculty for six years.

Rebecca Gillette and Norman Walthers were recognized in the Career Services category. Gillette serves in the Financial Aid Department is one of 黑料天堂鈥檚 longest serving employees at 45 years. Walthers has served in the Information Technology Department for 10 years.

Jean Imes and Chuck Booher were recognized in the Administrative/Professional category. Imes is the Director of Financial Aid and has been with the college for seven years. Booher served in Information Technology and recently retired.

Also at the awards program, Emily Heumann, Visual and Performing Arts, and Jason Lundock, Humanities and Social Sciences, were recognized as Adjunct Instructors of the Year for 2020 and 2021.

The Constellation Award for 2020 was presented to Dr. Chelsea Watts, Melissa Alling and Denise Pasquale for their Veteran Voices project, and the Constellation Award for 2021 was presented to Wendy Adams, Jana Bernhardt, Dr. Ron Cooper, Dr. Yvonne Ferrer, Richard Kirk, Dr. Christine Knierim, Jason Lundock, Dr. Sarah Satterfield, Amira Sims, Lee Rosen and Tom Walsh for their mental health awareness project, 鈥淗i, How Are You 黑料天堂!鈥

黑料天堂 Application Day June 12 Includes Waived Application Fee, Scholarship Drawing

黑料天堂 will welcome potential students to the Ocala Campus for 黑料天堂 Application Day on Saturday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The outdoor event will take place under the iconic Bell Tower at the center of campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.

Guests can connect with Admission and Financial Aid teams, speak with academic advisors, take a tour, and learn about student life and leadership opportunities. All attendees will have the $30 admissions application fee waived, and two applicants will receive $500 scholarships to cover class tuition. Free lunch will be available starting at 11 a.m., and guests will receive a swag bag with 黑料天堂-branded items.

The last day to apply for Summer B Semester is June 18. Summer B registration runs through June 25. Classes run June 28-Aug. 9.

黑料天堂 Offers Fast Track Scholarships to First-Time-In-College Students

黑料天堂 is helping high school seniors jump start their college education this summer with free classes. 黑料天堂 has received funds to support summer enrollment for 2020 and 2021 high school graduates impacted by COVID-19.

The聽Fast Track Enroll Now Scholarship Program聽is available through July 15. The scholarships of up to $500 can be applied to Summer B courses and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The program is supported by the Florida Student Success Center, the Florida College System Foundation and the Helios Education Foundation.

The Fast Track Enroll Now Scholarships are limited to first-time-in-college high school completers who enroll full-time or part-time in the Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree programs. To qualify, students must have graduated from an accredited high school program during the 2020 or 2021 academic year without attending a higher education institution. Current dual enrollment students who graduate in May 2021 qualify.

The scholarship application must be filled out on the 黑料天堂 student portal聽by July 15 after the student applies to 黑料天堂. The admissions application can be found online at聽黑料天堂.edu/Apply. The last day to apply for Summer B is June 18. Summer B registration runs through June 25. Classes run June 28-Aug. 9.
